Pine Trees is the third home on the Carmel-by-the-Sea lot shared with Brisa and Treehouse. Like its neighbors, it started as an empty site, and Paulo's 3D renderings were what first gave it shape.
Where Treehouse is light and airy, Pine Trees goes moody. Paulo built the interior around dark-walled fireplaces that anchor the living spaces, then added low-sitting chairs and side tables that keep everything close to the ground and easy to settle into. Lighter woods, stone slabs, and modern elements keep the dark tones from feeling heavy.
This is moody interior design done with restraint. A dark fireplace wall draws the eye and makes a room feel warm and enclosed, which suits a home surrounded by Carmel's pines and coastal fog.
If you're collecting moody living room ideas, Pine Trees is a good example of how to balance a dark living room with natural materials so it feels cozy instead of closed in. Paulo worked closely with the architects and contractors to carry the renderings through to the finished home.
